Deluxe box rails, bold black hood stripe and box interior, special wheels, âGTâ racing stripe, dual racing mirrors, hood scoop and special exterior colors. Itâs hot, itâs handsomeâ¦.and itâs here! Ford produced approx. 400 of the Rio Grande in 3 different colors. A little-known and extremely rare offering in 1969 was the Rio Grande. Available on special order, this was essentially a GT in the so-called âGrabberâ colors of âWimbledon Whiteâ, âPoppy Redâ or âCalypso Coralâ, partially blacked-out hood with scoop, side stripes, bed rails, vinyl top and unique âFord Ranchero Rio Grandeâ wheel centers. As a result, Rancheros so equipped received Fordâs âSpecial Performance Vehicleâ identification on the data plate regardless of engine choice. These vehicles may be identified by the aforementioned designation, as well as a blank space where the trim code would normally be found. With many uncommon features, this Ranchero Rio Grande came from the factory with a 351-cid V-8 engine and is matched to an automatic transmission.
