Price: US $7,800.00 SOLD OUT
Now available for your consideration is a nicely restored and recommissioned ,very rare to find in the automotive marketplace, TypeIII "Squareback" VW wagon. Absolutely fun to drive, very iconic, and representing the last year of production for this chassis, it has been completely refinished in Safari yellow, its interior completely replaced, and many new items grace its chassis inclusive of new tires, Mini light style alloy wheels, new windshield, window and door weatherstrips, front brake rotors and pads, new wheel bearings, additional pop-out side vent windows and factory tachometer (not installed, but illustrated herein), and much more. Additionally, the Type III is equipped with a very rare original roof rack. Yes, it will hold your Surfboard, ......or mother in law. The "Squareback" as it is commonly referred to received an engine overhaul at around 60K miles according the former owner, at which time he installed dual Weber carburetors in place of the factory fuel injection. The engine starts, runs an drives nicely, is a bit cranky when cold due to the performance dual Weber carburators, and its four speed fully synchromesh transmission shifts nicely with no issues. Currently the odometer is intermittent, however the car was not operated over the last nine years, while being restored. The speedometer does functions normally, as do the other gauges. Not shown, the rear seat indeed does fold down flat to accommodate larger loads, a very convenient option. Great place for your dog.....or?? Recent servicing included new plugs, oil replacement (synthetic 10/40 Castrol), fuel filter, front wheel bearing replacements, coolant flush (just kidding), air filter cleaning (the Weber's use foam), new german brake rotors, wheel bearings, and pads, caliper overhaul, synthetic gear oil replacement, and a complete detailing with Zymol Carnauba wax. This is a fun and delightful driver quality car which can be driven anywhere (except on water) with confidence. Rare in their numbers, they are great cars to own, and many owners are now modifying them with lowered suspension, whitewalls, etc, giving them that "Retro" appearance. Parts availability is fabulous and they are easy to service and maintain. In conclusion, I cannot list everything herein, thus please feel free to contact me with a any additional questions. The "Buy It Now" price has been established nicely below NADA, and Old Car Reports price guide for a very nice #2 grade car. I suggest a review of these guides prior to considering purchasing. It will provide you with an idea as to how affordable this car is. Current NADA "average" price for the 1973 Type III is over $10,000. This is clearly an above average car. Restoration to the Type III's level was in excess of $12K+. "Reasonable" offers will be considered, however, make no mistake about it, this is not a wholesale listing. Respectfully, please keep it real. The "Squareback" will be sold as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. I recommend personal inspection, or by a "qualified" person of your choice prior to auction end. Inspection, as a condition of sale after auction end will not be permitted. *Buyers with a feedback score of ten or less, please contact me prior to consider purchasing. It would be appreciated. Thank you for the interest, and enjoy the pictures. Chris. 413-575-8600
