Price: US $19,000.00 SOLD OUT
The car is taken for an occasional weekend drive but otherwise rarely used. Newer 1600cc motor runs, drives great, shifts cleanly. Have had the motor, brakes, transmission serviced by a great "old school" VW shop here in SoCal and it has a clean bill of health. The most important thing to look for in an old Ghia is rust - in this one the floor pans were replaced during the restoration and the rockers are solid. No rust bubbles anywhere after three years of ownership. After the rockers and floors, the next place to look is bottom of the nose (solid metal) and under the battery (some rust thru, but solid structure and battery hold down hardware all intact). Some very small scratches that are hard to spot unless you know where to look. Typical of old K-G, the doors have a slight sag but open and close fine -- I purchased new hinges and stops, but never got around to installing them, so they will transfer with the car.Exterior chrome is all good - all restored, replaced, or polished original. Interior chrome is mixed, some looks great but others are typically pitted after 50 years. Lights, turn signals work fine, the speedo is new/restored, but the clock doesn't work. The heat was never hooked up after the restoration - wasn't an issue to us as she's been a "fair weather" car for us and always garage-kept in CA.A beautiful example of one of the most desired years for Karmann Ghia before the U.S. federal regulatory requirements made them less pure to form.
