Own a part of 1st generation Camaro history, This is the only RPO L89 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 396ci/375hp convertible known to exist with the rallysport option, 1 of 1 Documented with it's original protecto plate/owner history and NCRS report, Factory Protecto plate pictured note's "MT" engine code which designates 396ci/375hp w/aluminum head option, I have been in contact with the original owner who still lives in South Carolina where this car was bought new, He purchased this car brandnew as soon as he returned from Vietnam on September 1st of 1968, He took delivery on September 3rd 1968 which is documented on the protecto plate, This was a special ordered car from Palmetto Chevrolet Company in Conway South Carolina and the gentleman that originally ordered it did not complete the deal therefore it sat around on the showroom floor for approx. 5 months before being bought, The original color combination is ash gold with black stripes, black rear body panel, black interior and a black convertible top, It had the steel wheels with the dog dish type hubcaps, The 68 Camaro was the first Camaro to receive aluminum heads from the factory with only 272 68 Camaro L89 cars built and from my understanding while GM records are not exact it is estimated that only 6 L89 Camaro convertible's were ever produced in 1968, Of the six only 2 documented examples (non rally sport optioned) are known to exist, This is the 3rd and only one known equipped with the rally sport option (1 of 1) that was stored away for many years basically unknown, It is now butternut yellow w/black stripes/black rear body panel, black convertible top and has black and white houndstooth seat covers, I remember this car over 40 years ago sitting inside on the showroom floor of a small town Chevrolet dealership here in Tennessee, It wasn't for sale just solely being used to draw attention to the dealership, Current engine is a professionally built 467ci bigblock dynoed @ 620hp, Coated big tube hooker headers w/complete 3" exhaust, Tremec 5 speed transmission, 12 bolt posi rearend with 3:73 gears, power steering, powerdisc front brakes, console w/gauges, floor shift, manual convertible top, Runs and drives great, All lights/hideaway headlights work, Solid southern car, Never subjected to salty roads or climates, All original floors, rockerpanels, trunk, quarter panels, etc..
