Based on Lincoln running gear, the Continental Mark II was one of the most acclaimed American cars of the 1950s, and its $9,695 price rivaled Rolls-Royce’s. The Turbo-Drive transmission, which exhibits a slight leak, currently has some difficulty engaging its three forward speeds. As the seller described it, the gearbox does not automatically engage Low when moving out from a stop. The driver must manually move the column-mounted selector lever into Low and then shift to Drive after the Continental gains speed. The gearchanges are described as being smooth, however, once moving. There is no rust visible anywhere on the body or the undercarriage. All of the exterior trim and scripting is present and appears to be in good condition. The swing-away taillamp housing that hides the fuel filler, and is released by a concealed handle. The seat pattern indicates that this Continental was assembled at the factory with gray leather accented by maroon nylon inserts. The upholstery appears to be redone at some time in the past and is still presentable, with no visible rips or tears seen. It’s on a par with the carpeting.
