Rare 1955 Nash Metropolitan Series II 2-door coupe (Model542). Coral Red body (P-65), Snowberry Whitehard top (P-69). Ivory vinyl & ivory/blackBedford Cord interior. 70,248 originalmiles. 4 cylinder 1200 cc (1.2 L) AustinB-series engine, 3-speed column standard transmission (“three on the treeâ€). Nash emblem. Rear mount continental kit and tire cover. Hallmark “M†hubcaps.Runs like a top. Brakesare not working at the moment – needs flush and gaskets to restore. Emergency brake fully functional. Previous owner did a partial restoration onit a number of years ago to repaint with the original factory color and replacethe upholstery with new old stock original upholstery. Original chrome shows some of its age, butstill in great condition. Glass isexcellent. On the body, one scrape onthe right-front quarter panel (see photos). Some other small nicks in the paint on left rear near the taillight (seephoto). Great, fun car, and it’s a realhead-turner. Comes with a tote ofmiscellaneous accouterments – manuals, parts, memorabilia, etc.The “Metro†was the first car designed as a second familycar, intended to be more fuel efficient than the primary family sedan, and italso marked the first car with a marketing campaign that deliberately targetedwomen. Designed by AMC, it was also thefirst American-designed car to be marketed in North America but built solely inEurope. This coupe was built in October1954 in Longbridge, Birmingham, UK, then shipped to the US. Only 7,294 Metropolitans were made for modelyear 1955. Only 15,644 Metropolitanswere sold with the Nash emblem for all model years – starting in 1957, thedistinct Nash and Hudson badges were dropped and all models sported the moregeneric “Metropolitan†standard logos.
