Price: US $8,900.00 SOLD OUT
Rare, half-year L.W.B. sedan with special order 4.5 Big Block engine. Original black leather interior and carpet with $5,000.00 Mercedes Benz quality repaint. Engine rebuilt in 1988 at a cost of $5,500.00. Six months later, transmission was replaced with new Borg-Warner unit due to unintentional abuse by an inexperienced chauffer at a cost of $3,500.00. Purchased from "All Mercedes" in Oakland, California In 1987, who, in turn, acquired the car at Bay City Auto Auctions in Fremont, California. All Mercedes was a Mercedes Benz dealer as well as an auto parts recycler, hence the "Salvaged" title. Car is sound and has never been wrecked. The automobile went into storage in 1989 and, aside from regular start-ups, was not driven. The car was in covered storage from 1989 until it was moved to indoor storage in 2008. In 2009, a local mechanic tried to prepare the car for road service and inadvertently blew the master seal. The car was returned to indoor storage where it has remained until present. Roof was painted black in preparation for a vinyl top installation that never took place. The windscreen has several cracks but is not broken. Car needs a master seal to run and a thorough cleaning of the fuel injectors, valve train, lower block and fuel tank. A local, high-end Mercedes Benz repair shop quoted a price of $1,500.00 to fix the master seal and thoroughly clean the engine. I have checked local sources and I feel the job could be completed for much less. This would also make a fine restoration opportunity for an experienced mechanic or a weekend project. In addition to the master seal, the car needs a new muffler, the gas gauge float in the fuel tank needs to be addressed and brakes should have a thorough inspection and rejuvenation after sitting idle for so long. Car is 75% original. Mercedes Benz W-108 automobiles are increasing in value with original examples selling between $15,000.00 to $19,000.00, and some cars selling in the low to mid-twenties. They are certain to increase value as restorable examples become scarcer. All trim parts, except for right headlamp bezel are included. Three of the four original wheel covers are also included, as is a modern radio.Due to over thirty years in storage, car is being sold in âAs-Isâ condition with no warranties or guarantees, implied or otherwise. Since vehicle's sale is final upon acceptance of payment, please do not hesitate to contact me for additional information. Car is located in Humboldt County, Northern California.
