1973 VW Thing â âRobertoâ The time has come, your gain is my loss. I have to make room! Up for auction is my 1973 VW Thing. I can go on and on, but I will provide some bullets and you can make your bids, it is up to you. This is truly a great car; âRobertoâ, but it has to go to make some room for my wife's car. I bought this car in 2010 when the car was restored (minus the top and the doors). What I know about the car: The engine was a complete rebuild by a master VW mechanic in Richmond and has about 7K miles on it. Original Thing engine, transmission, body, etc. I added the many minor attention to detail items (rubber, padding, fixed all of knobs, lights, and buttons). All of lights, bulbs, hazards, etc. work and are as should be. I added VW of America OEM running boards. Brakes have been completed gone through and I added a German master cylinder from the Thing Shop. The brakes work better than any VW I have owned (it drives and shifts the best too). I replaced the generator (brand new Bosch) and voltage regulator as well. The engine cooling tins were researched and are all original OEM 73 tins â lots of work, but worth it. I purchased a Thing Shop cover â works great. I have the original window (the one on the car is tinted green for glare â works great.) I have replaced the shifting coupling â as I said, drives and shifts better than any VW I have owned or driven. Wipers work in hi, but not low. Thing exhaust, very, very clean engine and car â all around. Last year I did a 5K miles servic e on the motor; new plugs, oil, timing set, belt, valve adjustment. 5 tires are ~ brand new with about 6K miles on them. Jack included as well. Interior completely redone â very, very nice. I only used / found OEM parts â thatâs all you will see or find. Car has never seen rain or snow â garaged and very well taken care of at all times. Has floor OEM mats. Has original Thing seat belts. Correct oil filler, hoses, and oil filter, works and is as it should be for a Thing. All receipts, records, order forms, and maintenance records for the vehicle. What it needs: I t is the original top, it has 3 tears on the driverâs side and one in the rear. However, it is in great condition. I never put the door windows in the car; I have the original 4 door windows â then need to be restored; just never needed them. Rubber gas pedal cover has a small tear in it â very easy to replace. Needs a great new owner. Mirrors are original as best I can say, they are pitted and not the best but they look okay â never found the reason to swap them (or find OEM like I wanted).
