One of only 5,190 made and one of the fewer remaining with matching numbers 396 engine. 1968 was the first and only year the SS 396 was its own model in the ElCamino. This vehicle impresses with factory air conditioning, tilt steering column, power steering, power brakes, tinted windows, 396 cubic inch engine, turbo 400 automatic transmission, and delivering that power to the pavement is the 12 bolt rear differential. The factory color was the very desirable ermine white with black vinyl top and black vinyl bench seat interior. And of course with the black SS body accents and blacked out grille this was a statement for all to notice. The ElCaminos have come into their own notoriety with some lately fetching from $100,000 to $260,000 in the Mecum Auctions. This is not a running driving vehicle, it has been sitting for several years now. It has been waiting for someone to take it and perform a complete and very warranted frame off restoration on it. The motor does turn over with the ignition key, but it isn’t running at this time. The motor and other mechanical components should be inspected and repaired as needed. The body will no doubt need some panels replaced to bring the car back to it’s original quality. I’ve included a photo of a welded/repaired section on the frame, this will need to be addressed or replaced as well, an easy thing to do during a frame off restoration.
