Price: US $28,000.00 SOLD OUT
I bought this van in California in 1991 from the original owner's estate (See the original window sticker, owners manual, etc.). Was almost all original. The van has been garaged for 29 of the past 31 years. Virtually no rust except for a nickel sized hole in the battery box. Has never been driven in snow/ice/slush. Mileage:-92,680 when I bought it in 1991-118,100 in 2003 when it got a new engine (1600 bored out to 1915), transaxle, upholstery and paint (see documents).-119,200 after arriving in Colorado in 2003-120,769 current mileage.-2,627 total miles driven on the new engine and transaxle-1,527 total miles over the past 19 years in Colorado (two camping trips and the rest bi-weekly starting and driving short distances to keep the engine in shape). In the past few years I've installed a new muffler; new tires; new brakes; new dual Kadron carbs; new generator; new voltage regulator; new throttle cable; new brake lines; new fuel pump; new coil, battery, plugs, wires, and distributor. Everything on the van works: horn, radio (original), heat (not great), windows, seat covers, door locks, windshield wash system. The only things on the van that don't work are the rear window defrost, and occasionally the turn signal mechanism needs a gentle push back to the neutral position. There is a small star ding in the windshield that's been there all along. A few days ago I had a VW mechanic do a final tune on the carburation and timing and give a thumbs up that the van was mechanically sound--ready for sale. The van has a battery isolator and a newish deep cycle battery under the rear passenger seat. Headrests were installed on the original seats. The van starts strong in cold and hot conditions and shifts like a dream. Quick throttle response. Carbs jetted for Colorado elevation. Low elevation jets included. Seat upholstery in the back and covers in the front are immaculate. The original Westfalia camper package is aged but works fine and has just a few superficial blemishes.Included with the van are the original child hammock and the original rear door bug screen.Bottom line: This is a clean, mostly original van. It is NOT an IMMACULATE SHOW VAN, though it turns heads. The van is ready for the open road or as a daily driver. I wouldn't hesitate driving it cross country tomorrow. It will be hard to part with after 31 years but it's time to let someone else enjoy it.
