Piper Race Cars in Georgia (www.piperracecars.com) is known for building world class formula Ford race car chassis. This is one of two prototype cars built as sample vehicles to determine if Piper Race Cars was going to go into limited production with this vehicle. The other completed car (with a small V-6) is believed to have stayed with the owner of the company (Don Sievenpiper). This particular Lotus 7 replica was built using a Ford Zetec 2.0L engine mated with a Ford Type 9, 5 speed gearbox and Merkur XR4TI rear differential assembly. Chassis is built from round and square alloy tubing similar to their Formula Ford Race cars chassis. Suspension front and rear is coil over Koni Shocks and braking is with Wilwood disc brakes all around. The Zetec engine is fed fuel from a Megasquirt computer tunable (laptop included) port injected fuel injection system thru a custom Jenvey intake manifold. As can be seen, the rear of the car is very similar to a Lotus 7, but the front is more reminiscent of Piper's formula ford race cars. Anyway, this car handles amazing, which makes sense since the builder actually specializes in Formula Ford race cars. Car has all new instrument panel gauges and radio (that I installed) as the OE gauges were not great quality and a couple didn't even work. I really wanted a radio and this one is acceptable for around town. The car has lightweight 17" rims with Nitto track tires. Please see the pics and ask questions if you are interested. This is literally a "one of a kind" car and you likely will never ever see the only other one that was initially built with this one.
